Bespoke

Airline ticket invitations!

Joe & Tracy came to us late last year & asked us to create their wedding invitations from their own, very personal, design.

They had two different invitations – one for their ceremony here in the UK & the other for the celebrations in Hong Kong.

The UK invitations were a traditional square folded style, cut on to white alabaster card & finished with a matt pistachio inlay.

The international invitations were in the style of an airline ticket. A printed boarding pass featured quirky details such Joe & Tracy as the crew & ‘J.T. World Tour’ as the airline operator.

This sat inside an outer, laser cut with the same design as the UK invitations.

Hummingbird Save the Dates!

Today’s bespoke design might look a little familiar.. that’s because it’s based on The Hummingbird Card Company logo!

Amy & Richard came to us for some Save the Date cards to let their guests know the date of their wedding in July.

Amy had fallen in love with our logo & decided it would fit perfectly with the theme of her wedding & so we adapted the artwork for her & ‘voila’ Save the Date cards personalised with her date!

Here they are wrapped & nestled in their keep sake box ready to send, they looked so delicate!

Amy chose the new peach inlay colour which we have just added to the colour palette. It’s a beautiful shade for everyone who loves all those scrummy blush tones!

Magical Winter Wonderland Wedding

Kate & Richard married at the end of December (in that magical week between Christmas & New Year!) in Windsor.

They came to us with some artwork that had been designed for them by a friend & asked us to create their invitations for them.

We cut their design on to a sea foam blue & ivory card with their invitation wording printed inside, in a beautiful deeper shade of  ’Tiffany’ blue.

Here’s a few photos of their gorgeous invitation!

A Retro Tea Dance

When we were asked to design an invitation for a fabulous 1940s style wedding including afternoon tea & an evening dinner dance we jumped at the chance to add a little of the Hummingbird hand writing with vintage tea cups & saucers on a little tea table for two!

Richard & Christina are having a retro wedding at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire so the castle just had to be there! The Bride & Groom requested a special little feature of a ‘fly-by’ 40′s plane with a wedding banner too!

We loved their wording too! Inside the invitation was ‘for a smashing day of fun & frivolity’ & included this wonderful quote..

The mere idea of you
The longing here for you
You’ll never know
How slow the moments go
Till I’m near to you

I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in the stars above
It’s just the thought of you,
The very thought of you, my love

Best wishes Richard & Christina for your fabulous Retro Wedding!

Papel Picado Inspired!

We’ve had great fun creating these gorgeous bespoke ‘Papel Picado’ (mexican fiesta flag) inspired laser cut Save the Date cards for Lisa & Iain.

Lisa asked us to design the laser cut postcard with a few little touches for their big day such as the heart shaped balloons. The card is a beautiful shimmer finish shade of forget-me-not blue called Sky and they coordinated it with an eco manilla envelope. They must have been a real treat for Iain & Lisa’s guests to open & are a wonderful glimpse of things to come on their ‘Big Day’!

We’re now working on the invitations so we’ll keep you posted!

Festive Flamingo Foundation!

We were asked this year to create the Christmas Cards for the wonderful Flamingo Foundation.

The Flamingo Foundation was created to help vulnerable people everywhere empower themselves through long-term, sustainable solutions that benefit their community & the wider public.

Their projects follow three themes: Training, Education & Skills, all with long term, sustainable solutions.

To get involved & help them raise much needed funds that they always put to good use please visit their shop.

Christmas cards are just £1.00! They are silver foiled printed on a recycled Eco Craft card with a matching envelope.

‘I Do’

We’ve had an amazing wedding season this year with so many commissions for creating gorgeous bespoke designs. We’ve had a great time coming up with new ideas and highlighting some of our favourites here on the blog.

Here’s another stunning invitation – this time designed by the bride!

Josie & Matt got married at Stubton Hall in June this year & asked us to create their bespoke wedding stationery.

The theme of the wedding was ‘summer berry’ (based on their gorgeous bridesmaid dresses). Our Azalea inlay paper was a perfect colour match.

Josie (who is a graphic designer) designed the stationery collection. She told us that she wanted the design to be quite simple & classical (to reflect her choice of venue) whilst also having a fun, quirky element. The design of the main invitation was based around the most distinct words of the wedding day: ’I do’. The font chosen is called Narsizz Swirls which worked perfectly for a wedding invitation. The lettering on the invitation cover was laser-cut to reveal the vibrant Azalea inlay paper, giving the guests a hint of the wedding theme.

Josie told us, ”I was so excited to receive the finished stationery, beautifully packaged in ribbon & tissue paper. It was very difficult to eventually part with all the invitations & hand them over to the postman but I received an excellent response from all my guests – they were particularly impressed with the laser-cut effect.”

The day invites were sent out in beautifully packaged wallets, containing the RSVP & information sheet. The evening invites, information sheets & RSVP cards were all printed to colour-match the Azalea pink.

Josie also ordered beautiful printed thank you cards. The same colour & font was used to carry the theme through, as well as the gorgeous azalea ribbon. We love that Josie & Matt have included photographs of their special day printed on the back of the thank yous – perfect to give people a keepsake from the day!

Mr & Mrs Swan!

We showed you Charlotte &  Alan’s bespoke design invitations a few weeks ago & we promised to share their other lovely personal touches.

Here’s their beautiful laser cut bespoke design table plan.

Its such a lovely keepsake from their special day!

The swan crest design was created as their married name is Mr & Mrs  Swan!

The wedding was at Charlotte’s family home, so the house just had to be a part of the design!

The border of  swirls & flowers was created from the lace design in her wedding dress.

If you’d love to create a bespoke design for your big day, then please just drop us a line at hello@hummingbirdcards.co.uk, or give us a call 01530 411905. We’d love to chat through all your ideas, we’re mad about all things paper & dedicated to creating vintage inspired, chic & stylish laser cut & printed wedding stationery!

Vintage Fairytale

Carla & Michael made an appointment to came to see us at the studio to commission their bespoke wedding stationery, then the fun began!

They are getting married this September at Warwick Castle & have created a ‘Vintage Fairytale’ theme in a rich palette of soft neutrals, chocolate brown & gold.

They bought sketches, pictures & cuttings from magazines along with them & were so full of enthusiasm!

Carla told us ‘I loved the process of doing my own sketches to bring to your design studio. It’s been one of the highlights of planning the wedding so far – & I have my oversized owl up on the wall. It still makes Mike & I giggle that in my drawing the owl was bigger than the castle!’  The most personal touch is the owl which is a subtle nod to Mike’s football team, Sheffield Wednesday (aka, The Owls). ‘I love how this is a personal & subtle nod & it means I can avoid having a white & blue theme!’ Carla said.

The invitation has been personalised with silhouettes of Carla & Mike, initials carved in the tree & of course Warwick castle itself to carry on the fairytale theme with whimsical elements.

Carla said  ’ I loved Hummingbird’s idea of putting it in a circle, it’s now like looking into a magical forest glade. It is absolutely perfect!

They have loads of personal touches & surprises for the guests so I have only included the things that I know they don’t mind us sharing!

Best wishes to Carla & Mike for a wonderful whimsical wedding day!

Pic-nic Proposal

Summer weddings this year have been full of surprises and when Charlotte gave us a call with her own ideas for wedding stationery, they were beautifully personal!

Charlotte said ‘the design idea came from the place where my fiancé asked me to marry him. Its was a beautiful summers day in July, the day before my birthday and Alan had arranged a surprise picnic in Derbyshire, Lathkill Dale. There’s a river that runs alongside the walk, with a romantic waterfall where we pitched up with a hamper of goodies. Little did I know what goodies were inside!’

Charlotte’s sketches were turned into vintage laser cut invitations for the day and a beautiful print for the evening invites.

The swans were added to the design, as her married name will be Charlotte Emily Swan!

They’ve gone for a ‘Vintage Chic’ theme, using a soft dove grey as the main colour and used a palette of  pastels, such as lilac, peach and pinks to add a touch of colour.

Other lovely personal touches to the day have been carefully considered such as Sweet Peas in her bouquet as Alan’s Great Granddad was a chief sweet pea grower.

There’s lots more but the guest will just have to wait and see!
