The Hummingbird Cake

We are really happy to share our latest collaboration with you today..

Since running our joint competition with Anna Tyler Cakes  in Perfect Wedding Magazine recently, and after the beautiful Butterfly, Heart and Cake biscuit favours that Anna designed to compliment our stationery -  we have now teamed up to create the most beautiful Hummingbird Wedding Cake. Anna will be sending some more pics shortly but until then here is a little sneek peek…..

Inspired by the laser-cut designs of our Boutique Collection and featuring our gorgeous little Hummingbird – Anna has worked her magic, and we love the results. The icing is a delicate, duck egg blue with the stem detailing in crisp white. The cake works beautifully with our lasercut Table Settings, Table Plan, menu and laser-cut Table Numbers. 

To cater for every ones tastes Anna offers a number of different flavoured sponges as well as her unique flavoured fruit cakes.

Traditional fruit cake – Rich fruit cake matured with brandy.

Chocolate and Pinenut – Rich fruit cake with the addition of dark Belgian chocolate pieces, pinenuts and Marsala soaked fruit.

Orange and Ginger – Rich fruit cake with the addition of crystallized ginger, fine orange zest and fruit soaked in Cointreau and Ginger wine.

Cherry and Pecan – Similar to a traditional fruit cake but with an extra helping of cherries and the addition of pecan nuts.

Vanilla sponge – Infused with vanilla syrup, layered with raspberry preserve and vanilla bean butter-cream.

Lemon sponge – Infused with lemon syrup, layered with luxury lemon curd (optional) and lemon buttercream.

Rich chocolate sponge – Layered with Belgian chocolate ganache.

It is possible for you to choose different flavours for multi-tiered wedding cakes, although where fruit cake is used it must always be at the bottom to support the rest of the cake.

 We are thrilled to announce they are the lucky winners of our competition in Perfect Wedding Magazine (June Issue)

The competetion was in conjunction with Anna Tyler Cakes… and Anne & Gavin will now be able to choose £500 of our beautiful laser-cut wedding stationery and £500 of matching favours or a cake for their big day!!! We hope this makes a lovely start to their future together and we look forward to creating some beautiful stationery for their big day!  x

The Wedding Diary – Delicious!

So now it’s time to create the cake! The first decision to be made was how many tiers and with so many delicious tastes and recipes to choose from it took an age!

Finally we agreed on three. A gorgeous traditional fruit cake, soaked in brandy. A tangy lemon sponge infused with lemon and layered together with yet more lemon curd – yummy! Then a little top tier of rich Vanilla and Almond Sponge layered together with vanilla butter cream and raspberry preserve – the raspberries are fresh from the garden!

And then the part I was most looking forward to – the design of course.

After several weekends of creating flowers and playing with sugar icing I just adored these vintage peach and apricot faded roses so much I made five!

I love the delicate ‘Sugarflair’ powders, they can create such subtle fading affects when blended with sugar paste for each petal. They are so much better than colourings.

I have also started to make the little Hydrangeas flowers to mix between the roses as little in-fills. When the cakes are all iced, stacked and decorated I’ll post a pic or two to show you the final design, just before the big day.

Next it’s onto the invites. The design is sketched, the artwork is created and so the laser cutting can begin! We will give you a sneek peek next week!

Graffiti Cake

From the walls to the cake stand…
…Californian brand goes graffiti style!

If you have a playful sense of humour and are planning a wedding with plenty of surprises, then Californa-based dessert shop Sweet & Saucy may just have something for you. This fabulous store specializes in custom-made cakes, cookies, cupcakes and other delicious desserts, and offers a colourful range of fun and quirky styles and flavours.

 The brilliant graffiti range was what really caught my eye; what a novel way to celebrate your love as a couple in a truly modern and different fashion!

Melody Brandon, owner of the Sweet & Saucy Shop, also runs regular classes at the shop’s pastry school and there are plenty of recipes on the website to try out for yourself.

Hummingbird & Anna Tyler Biscuit Favours


Hummingbird just gets sweeter!

We are very excited to announce that The Hummingbird Card Company has teamed up with prestigious cake designer Anna Tyler in a very special new collaboration, which will allow brides the opportunity to continue the theme of their stationery by matching their cake and wedding favours.


Anna Tyler Cakes is famous for mouth-watering creations, combining intricate detailing and playful designs with exciting flavours – from the traditional to the exotic – and we don’t mind telling you that here in the studio we are not adverse to sampling a new flavour or two!


We are absolutely thrilled at the new partnership and love the specially iced biscuit wedding favours that Anna Tyler has matched to some of the Hummingbird stationery design, particularly the heart and butterfly. The almost look too gorgeous to eat!


The main wedding cake can also incorporate the theme of one of the chosen stationery sets, which again is really exciting and a unique touch that will really appeal to the discerning bride looking for seamless elegance for her wedding.

Anna Tyler’s studio is based in Bristol but she happily caters to brides all over the United Kingdom and is available for consultations by appointment only. She is also always happy to arrange cake tasting sessions, which we heartily recommend.
