Invitations & Stationery

Hey Judes Christening Invites!

I just couldn’t help it, I just had to share these wonderful, unique invites with you.

We get asked to do so many different ideas for invitations so when we were approached to create a Christening Invite with a bespoke quote we just adored the idea as soon as we saw it!

‘So let it out and let it in, Hey Jude, begin’

(The Beatles, 1968)

For of course, Baby Jude! How lucky is he and he’s got a pretty amazing name too!

Hot off the press, the invites arrived in the studio today & we immediately knew we just had to give you a’ sneak peek’ at these wonderfully unique invitations.

So here’s the thing – whatever your idea and how ever mad it may seem, there’s nothing more personal & individual than creating your own ideas. So if you have a quote that means something special why not let us create Personalised Wedding invitations, Christening, Birth announcement or Anniversary cards just for you.

Just get in touch and we can make it happen!

Rachael Connertons amazing shots ….

As you know we exhibited at The Save The Date – Event With A Difference back in October, on the day the amazing Rachael Connerton was capturing the moments and mood in her own unique way. Here are a few of her shots from the day on a lovely slideshow – they really capture the feeling and the essence of the show and all the wonderful wedding suppliers that were exhibiting.

Rachael is based in The East Midlands, so very local to us! Working as a husband and wife team, Rachael and Ian combine simplicity, imagination and style to create exceptional images. They both have a natural affinity for working with people and are able to make even the most camera-shy feel at ease; resulting in images that will truly reflect your personality and soul.

Rachael got a fantastic shot of our NEW Laser-cut Garden Party Invitation. So we thought we would let you have a sneek peek!….We hope you love it, based on the original invite we created for Sally-Ann’s wedding back in September, we had such a fantastic reaction to it that it is soon to be added into out range! It will be accompanied by another new design (we shall keep you waiting for this one!), rsvp, save the date, order of service, menu, and some wonderful little extras to complete all your stationery needs. We can’t wait to showcase it and are just perfecting the final designs as we speak.

You can view more lovely images from Rachael Connerton’s Wedding Portfolio here.

We would love to hear your feedback on our new ‘Garden Party’ Design – so do let us know what you think at info@hummingbirdcards.co.uk

We will be able to send samples in the next few weeks, in the meantime if you would like a quote or any further information just give us a call on 01530 411905 or drop us a line at info@hummingbirdcards.co.uk

Here are a few more images she took of our stand on the day!

You Will Need:

Lasercut Outers, Coloured Inlays, Printed Inserts, Guillotine (or scalpel & ruler), Double sided tape, Ribbon, Diamante or pearls, Superglue, Tweezers, Scissors, Glass of bubbly (optional!)

- Trim down all your inserts to the correct size and fold in half.

- Add a small piece of our skinny double sided tape to the back of the insert.

- Fix inside the coloured inlay. Trim the edges so they all match.

- Fix a small piece of tape to the back of the inlay and fix inside the laser-cut card.

- Add your chosen ribbon by tying in a bow and trimming the ends or just leave the card plain & simple.

- To fix diamantés or pearls to your cards add a tiny dot of super glue to where you would like them positioned. Then, using tweezers, gently place the diamantés or pearls on top of the small glue dot. Make sure you allow a few minutes for everything to dry!

- If you are wanting to include information sheets we can supply you with paper to match your invitations. Print and trim these down to size (130mm x 260mm), fold them in half, they sit neatly behind your invitation.

- Write your guests names on each invitation, address the envelopes, then simply add a stamp and they are ready to send.

If you need a layout for printing just let us know and we can send you an example. Follow the same process for printing Menus, Orders of Service, Thank You cards etc. We can also supply you with matching Place-cards, Favour Boxes, Bunting and Mobiles to co-ordinate with your stationery.

Wording Your Wedding Invitations

Wording your wedding invitations can be a tricky business!

Regardless of  whether you want formal, informal, parents hosting, Bride and Groom hosting, both families hosting or you want to say something totally unique – we are hear to help you! We can advise you on the best layouts and make sure you have all the correct details so your guests know exactly where to be and when!

Here are a few tips of what information to include on your wedding invites and how to make them look beautiful!

Firstly CHOOSE A FONT. We  have a beautiful selection of fonts for you to choose from (if there is a specific font you have in mind then we’ll do our best to find it!) Then decide if you want a TRADITIONAL (centred) or CONTEMPORARY (aligned to the right) layout.

Script fonts work beautifully or for a more contemporary font choose one of our modern sans serif style fonts. Mixing a contemporary, formal font with names added in a script font looks particularly stunning!

When sending us your wording remember to include:

For Day Invitations:

- Who the invitations are coming from.

- Name of Bride (including middle names if desired)

- Name of Groom (including middle names and surname)

- Location of wedding

- Date of wedding

- Time of wedding

- Location of reception

- RSVP return date, name & address

- Any special dietary requirements

For Evening Invitations:

- Who the invitations are coming from.

- Name of Bride (including middle names if desired)

- Name of Groom (including middle names and surname)

- Date of wedding

- Location of reception

- Time of reception

- RSVP return date, name & address

For Formal, Parents hosting – Day Invitation wording:

R.S.V.P. cards can be sent separately (this encourages a quick and easy response from your guests) or you can include this information on the opposite side of the invitation. Remember to include a space for guests to include any special dietary if you are providing food for your guests. If you are sending RSVP cards separately you can always include a lovely, personal quote on the opposite side of your invitation.

For Formal, Bride & Groom Hosting – Evening Invitation wording, RSVP information  included:

If you want to have a very informal invitation then just email us your wording and we can work our magic on it! Make sure it reflects you as a couple & your personalities – don’t feel you have to have a formal invitation if it is not what you really want!

Another little tip is how to politely let your guests know that their children are not invited! This is always a delicate matter, as you don’t want to offend your guests – so here are a few suggestions:

  • To allow all our guest to relax and enjoy themselves we have chosen for our wedding day to be for adults only. We look forward to sharing time with your family in the future.
  • We would like to invite all the children of our friends, unfortunately it is only possible for us to accommodate the children of close family

Wedding Diary – Designed by us!

Dan, my partner, and I sat one Saturday night over a glass of vino and scribbled and sketched endless ideas. We didn’t want anything too formal, it had to be ‘very us’ and of course laser-cut. So we created our Garden Party unique wedding invitation.

I sketched out the design and we then played around with card swatches trying out different colour combinations.

I absolutely adore Manila paper and even gift wrap my presents in it adding white ribbons and tags, so using Manila card was a must really. We included in the design lots of little sentimental touches like our initials carved in the tree and hanging from the branches, the three bells at the church, our vintage tea-sets and of course the trees shaped into a heart.  (Which is no surprise to anyone that knows me; I love a heart or two!!) I also wanted to try and make the invites look a little like bunting, so they are individual layers of card tied together with a little ribbon and sent in a gorgeous Manila wallet. The backs of the info cards and RSVP cards are printed with cute scatter polka dots in a beautiful shade of apricot blush.

The finishing touch was calligraphy addresses, in white Gouache,  which took an age but when they were all made they all looked so pretty I didn’t want to send them!

Our family and friends just love them and it’s so lovely to get their excited messages when they receive them. ‘Auntie Sally’ even wants to hang it on the wall!

Next it’s Bridesmaid dresses and my shoes! I’m having a nightmare finding anything I love, that’s not a traditional wedding shoe, but quirky and comfy to wear all day. Any ideas??!!

Sally-Ann x
