Mother’s Day

Spring has finally arrived! Getting out of the dull, damp, cold days of winter always feels a relief, with a flurry of hope and positivity and there’s a couple more reasons for a celebration too. The clocks go forward on the last Sunday of the month, 26th March, so no more getting up and coming home from work in the dark and there’s the extra hour of daylight for evening adventures.

Mother’s Day is soon, this Sunday 26th March, so don’t delay, if you’ve not got your card yet here’s a few ideas. After-all it’s that lovely time when we can reflect on the all the amazing things our Mums have done for us, the coming together of families and a great excuse for a piece of cake.  If you’re looking for the perfect card for your mum, we may just have one!

This year we’ve added a little ‘luxe’ love to our Mother’s Cay Cards! We’ve designed messages paper cut in gorgeous gold mirror card. The trend for all things gold has taken over…, anyway all Mum’s need some gold glamour! And we have cards for several different Mums too, Step Mums, God Mothers and even Mums to be…!

Here’s the history bit…

Mothering Sunday ( OK so Mother’s Day is an Americanism) is a day to give thanks to your Mum. Some think the day was invented by commercial entities, for companies like us to sell cards and gifts, but it’s actually a Christian celebration dating back to the 16th century. Mothering Sunday was, back then a chance for those who worked as servants to take a day off and go back home to see their families and attend the church in their home town – or ‘mother church’. They would pick flowers to display in the church as well as giving them to their families. The day gradually disappeared until Constance Smith pushed for a revival of Mothering Sunday and by the 1950’s the date had been well and truly established once again.
