Lovely things

Spellbound in Keswick!

19th July 2017

Its’s been a busy old summer with lots of beautiful bespoke designs being created here in the HB studio. We’ve also heard so many amazing love stories, so we thought we’d share a few of them with you. When Sarah and Steve got in touch they loved the feel of our ‘Fairy Tale’ design but really wanted something special and unique that would mean something to them. So they decided to start designing one themselves and sent us some ideas. They had got engaged in Keswick, looking out over the vast Derwent Water lake towards the mountains, on ‘their’ now special bench!…

Hummingbird Studio…

1st March 2017

Last year we decided that with limited space in our wedding stationery studio we needed to find a new home for Hummingbird Cards. We found 81 Market Street, the perfect place, high ceilings, lots of big sash windows and natural light and views of the castle! The transformation started with new flooring, painted white walls, the installation of lots of shelving and slowly the new HB space started to take shape. We moved…

My Secret Pleasure…

18th November 2016

The post has just landed, an uninspiring heap that you’re rifling through, a hand full of the usual bills, bank statements and take away flyers, when you catch a glimpse of a thick luxurious envelope. ‘Is it my birthday?’ pops into your head, then vanishes as the reality of just another Wednesday dawns. So what is inside this rather lovely surprise,  a beautiful hand enticing mystery, who’s written to me? In an era of emails, texts, Facebook, Twitter and numerous other social media messaging services, a personally hand written letter has become a rare treat in our digital world. Could it…

Iconic Bikini Moments

13th July 2016

Forgive me for having a moment away from stationery and a little trip down memory lane. Having started out as a lingerie and swimwear designer I just can’t help but mark this moment in time! July 5, 1946 was the day the bikini was launched to the world, in Paris, by Louis Réard. He’d noticed that women were always having to roll up their swimwear on the beach in order to tan. We owe him so much! The Réard brand was popular for several decades but disappeared in the 70’s. Now it is being brought back under…
