Valentine’s Cards and Gift Ideas 2020

We know that some people think Valentine’s Day is a cliche, but I honestly love it. I love the thought of my dad organising the flowers for my mum a week before, popping out to walk the dog and coming home with a beautiful bunch of red roses (as he does without fail every year) to ‘surprise’ her on Valentine’s. I love leaving a card hidden in my husbands work boots as he leaves for work really early in the morning and I adore the card he leaves on the pillow next to me for when I wake up. I love the smiles on peoples faces, the flowers in the market and the cards the little ones make at school and nursery.

I do truly believe we should celebrate our love every day of the year and not only on the 14th of February and that now it’s become heavily commercialised laden with teddy bears, huge boxes of chocolates and panic buying purchases.

Valentine’s was once a day when people genuinely declared their love and affection with simply the written word, a poem within a card or a love letter. Perhaps we should keep it simple, write a few words, bake a cake or cook a lovely meal.
