Tea cup treasures!

20th March 2012

I  read an article recently that sounded just like me.. in fact I’m sure I’ve said almost the same thing after a visit to one of the many auctions, antique markets or car boots that I’ve trawled hunting for a treasured hand painted teacup and saucer ! Yasmin le Bon was quoted as saying.. ‘NOTHING GIVES ME MORE JOY.. than finding a beautiful hand-painted teacup and saucer.  My husband Simon is obsessed with making traditional tea, and I like having tea parties with lots of different cups.’ After collecting some beautiful bone china tea cups for our vintage style wedding I…

Calligraphy: a perfect finishing touch

9th November 2011

I really love calligraphy. I think this is in part because I’m a Janeite & the beautiful curly script makes me think of a time when writing with a nib & an inkwell was the only way to write at all. Whenever I see an address beautifully written in calligraphy it makes me think that it should be presented to it’s recipient on a silver platter by a butler wearing white gloves. Sadly, nowadays most of us don’t have butlers & it’s not really practical to send all our correspondence written in calligraphy. I do think it’s perfect for special occasions though. It adds a really special…

Where do we get our inspiration from?

20th April 2011

This is a question we’re regularly asked! As we look forward to launching our new website we are also looking ahead to new season designs & ideas. We love to spend a day being inspired & this month we took a trip to Newark Antiques Fair. Newark is just incredible! It’s amazing what a day browsing for new ideas can do to ignite your imagination! The fair is one of Britain’s best for anyone interested in anything antique, vintage or shabby chic! Definitely worth a visit. It’s just huge (covering some 100 acres with around 4,000 stalls!) so no matter what…

The power of ink

28th March 2011

Here at The Hummingbird Card Company we are delighted to be asked by countless couples to embellish their invitations and stationery with calligraphic details and we offer a range of options featuring this exquisite art – all produced by ourselves in the studio, which we are quite proud of! Calligraphy is a beautiful form of handwriting that many couples like to feature on their wedding stationery, adding a delicate, refined and more traditional touch. The word in itself reads beautifully, apt indeed as it originates from the Greek terms Kallos (meaning beautiful) and Graphe (meaning writing) – hence beautiful writing. From…

Here comes the sun…..

24th March 2011

Here comes the sun…little darling!! The sun is shining at last, and as we enter Spring and the flowers are just starting to bud and bloom, what better time to showcase our new colour for the Summer. We are loving the FRESH YELLOW HUES that are coming through. They compliment the spring flowers beautifully – think daffodils, narcissus, crocus and snowdrops for February and March weddings…with a fresh white palette and a pop of yellow! For summer weddings we love the idea of daisys…old jamjars filled with huge bunches of freshly picked daisies of all sizes. Simple, timeless and perfect! These…
