18th October 2021

From Monday 18th October, Hummingbird is taking a little holiday! It’s been a crazy old 19 months, hasn’t it? For all but the first week back on the 21st March 2020, somehow, we managed to stay open through the lockdown. Thankfully we managed to diversify and without weddings, we concentrated our creative minds on our greeting card and gifts collection, now called Hummingbird Homebody. And thanks to you and all your lovely orders we’ve been sooo busy! So before the craziness that Christmas can be, we’re taking a week off to recharge the batteries and to reset, refresh and reignite our…

Wedding Trends 2021-22

30th June 2021

With so many weddings postponed couples have had a lot more time to plan, so now more than anything want to put their personality on their day, so we’re sure we are going to see more creative and unique weddings than ever before. How exciting is that! We’ve all been forced to stay at home, not able to see or hug our loved ones, so we’re going to see two major influencers for post lockdown weddings… Either ‘Maxi-Weddings’, everything oversized with a ‘go big or go home’ vibe. These are going to be ‘major celebrations’, with a huge guest list of…

Covid Wedding News

15th June 2021

After everything, we’ve all been through, from today onwards weddings can increase in numbers but sadly other restrictions have not been lifted for weddings and receptions for another 5 weeks. Many couples with imminent weddings are understandably extremely disappointed that June 21st will not bring the freedoms we all wanted. We just have to look for the good and feel a little more positive though. Things can only get better, so let’s look forward. Here’s a little update on the new guidance, but you must speak to your venue, wedding planner, caterers and marquee companies, to understand all the rules and…

Wedding Anniversary Gifts and Symbols…

8th February 2021

With The Meanings. We’ve got all the anniversaries covered, with cards for all the important significant dates. We’ve listed them for you, with the meaning behind each one. Some of the symbols are based upon ancient history, others are just simple rather lovely. Hope this helps when you’re struggling to work out which card you should be buying for your anniversary.  First Year Anniversary  Paper is the first-year anniversary symbol and represents your new marriage like a blank sheet and signifies your relatively fragile newfound relationship. Second Year Anniversary  Cotton for 2nd anniversaries is thought to symbolise the fabric, which is made…

Stay At Home Valentine’s – Lockdown Style

29th January 2021

So guess what… Valentine’s Day 2021 is going to be a little different, just like all our special events recently! Celebrating Valentine’s Day was relatively simple, just book a table at your favourite restaurant, pick up a bunch of flowers, a card, and you’re good to go. But all that’s changed this year. Maybe you never were a fan, you find it all a little cheesy, or you hate the fact that prices at restaurants are inflated for one evening only. Well, good news – 2021 is your time to indulge in celebrating at home. For those that love any excuse…

Our 2021 Message From Us To You

6th January 2021

This is our first post in a long time, after a very strange and difficult year. We’re feeling refreshed after a comforted and cocooned Christmas and ready for a new start. As all our weddings were put on hold we pressed pause for a few weeks last March and April and temporarily closed the studio doors. We opened again selling our greeting cards and gifts from our Not On The High Street store. There were immense highs and lows as we struggled as an isolated team, some furloughed and others trying to manoeuvre their way through the Royal Mail postal backlog…

Wedding Planning Pandemic Style

9th July 2020

It’s now 100 days after lockdown and we are starting to emerge, hopefully like beautiful butterflies from a chrysalis. During these strange and sad times, it has been heartbreaking listening to personal wedding circumstances and receiving messages from Brides and Grooms, and those within our little happy family of the wedding industry too. Countless sad stories of all the wedding plans broken and devastated by this disease and the daily uncertainty we are coping with. One minute you were in wedding planning mode, you had the venue booked, the invites sent, you’d got the dress, and then the pandemic happened! We…

Diamond Wedding Lockdown Hero

10th June 2020

Throughout lockdown, we all have our own personal and incredible stories of how someone has come to the help of another. I was so touched by one of these stories, an amazing act of kindness to help a couple get their 60th Diamond Wedding Anniversary cards, it is such a lovely tale to tell! During lockdown, I was contacted by a gentleman who had an idea to surprise his wife. Myra & Peter were not going to be able to celebrate their special anniversary of 60 years of marriage with friends and family, but Peter had a surprise plan for his…

Father’s Day

5th May 2020

Let Him Know You Love Him With all the lovely sun we’ve been having lately you’ll be feeling like summer will be here soon! But first, we’ve got a very important date for all the dads out there. Yep Father’s Day! Although we don’t need a specific date to celebrate the most important man in our lives, every dad in the country does get his special day on the calendar. But with lockdown still in place as I write and post this blog we sadly can’t be planning BBQ’s and family get together’s this year. That doesn’t ease the amount of…

Now more than ever is a great time to send a little love and a truly welcome surprise of a thoughtful gift that can fit through the letterbox. The Royal Mail service is still delivering at this difficult time and see the delivery of parcels and letters is a way of keeping the country together, businesses operating and helping many people who can’t leave their homes, so thank you Royal Mail for all that you are doing, each and every one of you postal workers. Without you those who don’t have mobile phones, access to the internet, are feeling lonely, are…
